Back in the spring of 2019, Angie Goggio felt compelled to pursue the monumental project of putting together a book “intended to contain thoughts, memories, and wisdom gained from our journey into adulthood from the starting point of our shared high school experience.” She, along with Greg Lima, began putting together the pieces to make that dream a reality. They surrounded themselves with a dedicated team without which none of this would have been possible. After more Zoom meetings than high tides, RipTide was born.

With the unforeseen events of 2020, the poem “To a Mouse” by Robert Burns comes to mind. It tells of how he while plowing a field, upturned a mouse's nest. The resulting poem is an apology to the mouse:

But, Mousie, thou art no thy lane [you aren't alone]
In proving foresight may be vain:
The best laid schemes o' mice an' men
Gang aft a-gley, [often go awry]
An' lea'e us naught but grief an' pain,
For promised joy.

Even though the efforts of the RipTide team were upturned by the plow of COVID-19, the work went on. The birthing process took longer than expected but the result is incredible.

This is how Angie describes this monumental effort in a portion of her “Letter From The Editor” in the opening pages of RipTide:

“The book is even better than I’d imagined. Not only is it chock full of heartfelt stories from nearly 100 classmates, but it is also a book that records the place and time in which we flourished and sometimes struggled. It is an examination of those social, political, and psychological currents that influenced us and ultimately ended up in our DNA. It is a dedication to those who didn’t make it to 50 years. In all, it is a book that is unlike any other. It is a pictorial essay, it is a literary magazine, it is a documentary of our lives, complete with opportunities to listen to music, watch videos and peruse a gallery of media that showcases the talent held by members of our class. It is a legacy of memories and a plateful of new discoveries for you to enjoy.”
